Alex Scott’s potential January move to Chelsea has come into sharper focus after Fabrizio Romano said Bournemouth have opened the door to a possible transfer.
The midfielder was considered Chelsea’s top midfield target during the summer, but a deal could not be completed. Romano said the club remain interested as the winter window approaches.
“Let me clarify one thing. Bournemouth are not putting Alex Scott on the market. It is not that Bournemouth are saying they want to sell Alex Scott,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
He added: “Obviously, he is a fantastic player and an England international. So, they are now opening the door, which is different. In the summer, the door was closed. Now, the door is open.
“Chelsea considered Alex Scott their top target in midfield over the summer, and it was not possible to proceed, but Chelsea loved the player. So, Chelsea are still there.”
Chelsea face decision over January move for Alex Scott
Bournemouth’s position suggests Scott is not being actively offered for sale, but a transfer could now be considered if a suitable proposal is made.
The England international is expected to attract interest from leading clubs over the next year, leaving Chelsea to decide whether to act in January or wait until the summer.
A winter deal could require Chelsea to pay more than they otherwise would, but an early move could also prevent a bidding war with rival clubs. The London side may therefore consider the additional cost if they believe Scott could provide the midfield reinforcement needed to challenge for major honours this season.
