Aston Villa are preparing to offer Emi Buendia a new contract as Leeds United and clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia monitor the attacking midfielder’s situation.
The Argentine is approaching the final six months of his current agreement, increasing the pressure on Villa to secure his future before rival clubs can make offers in January.
Aston Villa contract offer for Emi Buendia
Buendia remains regarded as an important player at Villa Park, and the club’s intention is understood to be shared by the player. A report by TeamTalk says Villa are stepping up efforts to reach a long-term agreement with him.
The report claims a two-and-a-half-year deal is already on the table for the former Norwich player. Leeds have maintained a long-standing interest, while clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are also said to be following developments.
Those clubs would be able to approach Buendia with potential free-transfer offers from January if he does not agree fresh terms at Villa. The report also suggests that some suitors could offer significant wages.
Villa’s push to retain established players comes after a summer of major change at the club. Unai Emery’s side have recently improved their form, with a 1-0 victory over Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday described as the latest sign that the team is beginning to settle.
Buendia’s future therefore remains a priority for Villa as they seek to keep one of their key attacking players despite interest from Leeds and overseas clubs.
