A first-time father delivered his breech baby daughter in the front seat of a car after his partner went into labour while they were driving to hospital in Brandon, Florida.
Yasser Solorzano and Aysha Tenouri had been on the road for only a few minutes on Thursday evening when Tenouri realised the birth was imminent. Solorzano pulled into the first car park he could find, outside a Value Pawn & Jewelry shop, and called 911.
“The baby’s head is about to come out, pull over,” Tenouri told him.
Baby delivered in front seat
Solorzano said he began to see the baby emerging as he searched for somewhere to stop. He soon realised she was in a breech position and delivered her himself in the front seat.
Tenouri said her partner stayed calm and helped her through the unexpected emergency.
“He was very calm, very supportive and helped me relax,” she said. “We got through it really smoothly.”
Emergency medical crews arrived at the pawn shop car park about six minutes later. Tenouri and the newborn were taken by ambulance to HCA Florida Brandon Hospital.
The baby was born almost four weeks early and the couple had not yet decided on a name. They eventually named her Liana Valentina Solorzano.
Mother and baby said to be healthy
Liana weighed 4lb 10oz and did not need treatment in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, according to her mother.
“Very grateful that everything is okay, and we’re both healthy,” Tenouri said. “Liana didn’t even need the NICU. She’s been here with me the entire time.”
Family members travelled to the hospital after hearing about the roadside birth, where they met Liana and supported the couple as they became parents for the first time.
Solorzano said he was thankful that the delivery had gone smoothly despite the circumstances.
“You can only be thankful for how smooth it really turned out to be,” he said. “That’s something I’m very grateful about.”
The new family of three hoped to leave hospital and return home on Saturday.
