A 15-year-old girl has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly pushing a man from a moving Chicago Transit Authority Red Line train, killing him on the city’s South Side.
The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Kyle T. Bickham by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Police said he was involved in an altercation with three people at about 2.30pm on Monday, 7 September, near the 69th Street station.
Investigators allege Bickham was pushed from the train in the 0-100 block of West 69th Street. He landed on the electrified third rail and was later struck by another train. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The teenager, whose name has not been released because she is underage, is also facing charges of mob action and aggravated battery, according to the Chicago Police Department.
She was arrested on Friday and is due to appear in juvenile court for a detention hearing on Saturday.
Bickham’s family said he had been returning home after working an overnight shift at an Amazon warehouse in Cicero. Relatives described him as caring and hardworking, and urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about those involved to contact police.
