Douglas County commissioners have approved a one-year lease allowing the Douglas County Museum of History & Art to remain in the historic former courthouse in downtown Douglasville, Georgia.
The decision, taken on Tuesday 1 September, keeps the museum at 12431 Veterans Memorial Highway after months of uncertainty over its future at the county-owned building.

The museum had operated from the courthouse rent-free for about 27 years. The building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was saved from demolition and later converted into a museum. County commissioners had previously voted to end the arrangement, citing the need for space for county departments and concerns about revenue. A February vote to terminate the lease passed by three votes to two, according to local reporting.
The museum was subsequently closed to the public after 15 May while its leaders sought a new agreement and considered how to protect its collection. Its own website said the organisation had also reorganised its board and transferred assets from the former Board of Old Courthouse corporation to a new museum organisation in July.
