Celebrities have taken markedly different approaches to their summer breaks, with Jamie Oliver opting for a low-key Scottish escape while Stacey Solomon has enjoyed a series of trips with family and friends.
The celebrity chef spent part of July exploring Edinburgh and the Isle of Mull with sons Buddy and River, alongside friends and fellow food professionals Max Kinder and Indi Radford.
Oliver’s trip included time in the Scottish capital, where the group visited restaurants and attended a Snow Patrol concert at Edinburgh Castle on Saturday, July 18. He later revealed that the show was River’s first live gig.
The family then travelled by ferry to Mull, where they spent time taking in the island’s scenery, enjoying meals and heading out on the water. Oliver shared glimpses of the break on social media, including footage of a boat trip and a visit to Glenforsa, the café and farm shop founded by Kinder and Radford.
The chef has previously spoken about his affection for Scotland, but the trip offered a quieter alternative to the international getaways favoured by many of his fellow television personalities.
Solomon, meanwhile, has packed several holidays into the summer months. Her travels began with a work-related visit to Miami in May alongside Rochelle Humes, Olivia Attwood and other influencers on a trip organised with beauty retailer Space NK.
The group spent time at the beach, on a yacht and at restaurants, with Solomon documenting parts of the trip for her social-media followers. Although presented as a professional engagement, the break also included plenty of downtime in the Florida sunshine.
She later travelled to Turkey with husband Joe Swash, their children and members of her extended family. The holiday included Solomon’s younger children, as well as her older sons Leighton and Zachary, who was subsequently spending part of the summer in the United States through the Camp America programme.
Solomon and Swash have shared photographs and videos from the Turkish trip, including family meals, poolside scenes and evenings out. Her sister Jemma also posted informal pictures from the holiday, showing the wider family group away from the more carefully staged images often associated with celebrity travel.
After returning to Essex, Solomon was soon on the move again. She travelled to the United States with relatives and shared photographs from Los Angeles and a day trip to San Francisco towards the end of August.
The latest break followed the family’s recent bereavement, with Solomon and her sister indicating that they wanted to make the most of time together. Her posts showed sightseeing, family gatherings and relaxed moments rather than a formal publicity appearance.
While Oliver’s Scottish adventure centred on food, live music and island scenery, Solomon’s summer has involved a mixture of work, family travel and long-haul holidays. Together, the trips provide a snapshot of the contrasting ways familiar television figures have spent the school summer break.
