Jimmy Kimmel Live! is reportedly set to end in 2027 after 24 years on air, with sources claiming that Jimmy Kimmel’s contract will not be renewed beyond next season.
The alleged plan, reported by Page Six, would see the final episode of the ABC late-night programme broadcast in May 2027. Neither Kimmel nor ABC has confirmed the report.
An ABC Entertainment spokesman said the information was “inaccurate” and that any reports about the show’s future were “purely speculative”.
The claim comes as Kimmel, 58, prepares to return to the programme on Tuesday, 8 September, following a two-month break from hosting duties.
The comedian’s future at ABC had appeared more secure after the network confirmed in December 2025 that he had signed a one-year extension, keeping Jimmy Kimmel Live! on air until at least May 2027.
That agreement followed a period of uncertainty last year, when ABC temporarily suspended the show after Kimmel made comments about reactions to the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The programme returned after several days off air.
Kimmel has also remained a frequent target of criticism from Donald Trump, who has repeatedly attacked the host and called for him to be removed from television.
Rosie O’Donnell recently filled in for Kimmel for four nights during his absence. Her appearances were well received by viewers and critics, with one segment attracting widespread attention after she adapted the traditional song Danny Boy into a parody aimed at Trump.
O’Donnell sang “Donnie Boy” while mocking the president, in a performance that quickly circulated online. She and Kimmel have both been longstanding targets of Trump’s public criticism.
For now, ABC has indicated that Kimmel’s return will go ahead as scheduled. The network’s denial means that any decision to end the programme after May 2027 remains unconfirmed.
