Former footballer Joey Barton will remain in custody until his trial next year after a renewed bail application was refused at Liverpool Crown Court.
The 44-year-old, from Widnes, Cheshire, appeared by videolink from HMP Liverpool on Monday. Judge David Potter ordered that he remain remanded ahead of a pre-trial hearing on December 11.
Barton denies causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Kevin Lynch, 51, at Fairway in Huyton on March 8.
The trial had been due to begin last week but was adjourned until March 8, 2027. It is expected to take place exactly a year after the alleged assault.
Prosecutors allege that Barton attacked Mr Lynch after the pair had been drinking at Huyton and Prescot Golf Club. Mr Lynch, a former non-league football manager and founder of special education school NexGen Academy, was said to have suffered serious injuries to his eye.
Barton, who won one England cap, previously played for Manchester City, Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers, Rangers, Burnley and Marseille.
