The lone holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy trial has hired lawyer Edward Andrew Paltzik, who also represents three people connected with the death of Nolan Wells.
The juror’s identity has been sealed by the court following intense public criticism after the trial ended in a mistrial. Paltzik said he was now representing the man and pledged to help protect him.
In a statement, the lawyer described his client as “courageous and heroic” and “a champion of justice”. He said the juror was safe at an undisclosed secure location in rural northern New England.
Paltzik said his immediate focus was on the juror’s health, safety and wellbeing, amid scrutiny of his conduct during deliberations.
Eleven jurors supported finding Lindsay Clancy not criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children. The remaining juror did not agree with them, preventing a unanimous decision and resulting in a mistrial.
Several of the other jurors later criticised his behaviour during deliberations, alleging that he was difficult to engage with and had not properly applied the reasonable doubt standard.
His background has also been examined. NBCBoston reported that he was accused of domestic violence in 2021, although the charge was later dismissed. An active restraining order involving a family member reportedly remained in place when he was selected for the jury.
Paltzik also warned that there were no authorised GoFundMe or GiveSendGo fundraising accounts for the juror, describing any such pages as fake, unauthorised or scams.
The lawyer represents Warren Hudson, Jax Pitalo and Morgan Seymour in connection with Nolan Wells’s death. In a joint statement last month, Paltzik said the three young men were “completely innocent” and had nothing to do with Wells’s death.
