Alton Towers is permanently closing The World of David Walliams, as the comedian and author faces allegations of misconduct and a series of professional setbacks.
The attraction, based on characters from Walliams’s children’s books, formed a dedicated section of the Staffordshire theme park. It included Gangsta Granny: The Ride, a 4D dark ride centred on a plot to steal the Crown Jewels.
An Alton Towers representative said the decision followed a regular review of the resort’s rides and attractions as the 2026 peak season came to an end.
“As the 2026 peak season at Alton Towers Resort comes to an end and following our regular review of rides and attractions across the resort, we have taken the decision to permanently close the World of David Walliams,” the representative told Deadline.
Allegations against David Walliams
Walliams has sold more than 50 million children’s books worldwide, including Gangsta Granny, The Boy in the Dress, Billionaire Boy, Ratburger and The Midnight Gang.
His publisher, HarperCollins, dropped him in December 2025 amid allegations concerning his alleged behaviour towards junior female employees. The allegations were the subject of an internal investigation, according to reports at the time.
In September 2026, HarperCollins also confirmed that it no longer represented Walliams’s back catalogue. His talent agency, YMU, likewise ended its representation of him.
Walliams’s spokesperson previously said he had not been informed of any allegations raised by HarperCollins and had not been involved in an investigation or given the opportunity to answer questions.
“David strongly denies that he has behaved inappropriately and is taking legal advice,” the spokesperson said.
It was also reported last week that Walliams had been removed from an upcoming film project.
