Liverpool are monitoring Real Sociedad right-back Jon Aramburu, but face competition from Manchester City for the Venezuela international, who is reportedly valued at around £50 million.
The 24-year-old has attracted attention in La Liga with his defensive work and ability to handle one-on-one situations. Liverpool have carried out background checks on the defender, with the reports returned to Anfield understood to have been highly positive.

Manchester City have also assessed Aramburu as they consider possible additions on the right side of their defence. Tottenham, Newcastle, Everton and Fulham are among the other clubs to have watched his performances for Real Sociedad.
Aramburu is primarily a right-back but can also play on the left, a versatility that has increased his appeal. He is contracted to Real Sociedad until 2030 and his deal is reported to contain a release clause worth approximately £50 million.
That clause leaves the Spanish club under little pressure to negotiate, particularly with interest building among several Premier League sides.
Liverpool’s interest comes as Andoni Iraola considers his options in the position. Ronald Araujo, who is naturally a centre-back, has already been used at right-back this season after joining from Barcelona on loan.
Aramburu would provide a specialist option rather than another centre-back being adapted to the role. His mobility in wide areas, ability to operate on either flank and comfort in defensive duels would suit a side seeking to defend aggressively higher up the pitch.
The reported £50 million fee would represent a significant investment, although Aramburu is entering his prime years and is already an established Venezuela international.
The immediate question for Liverpool is whether right-back will become a priority in January. Araujo offers Iraola a temporary solution, but is not regarded as a natural long-term answer in the position.
Manchester City’s interest could make any move more difficult. Should both clubs decide to act, Aramburu would have the choice of two major Premier League options.
