A 28-year-old woman remains on life support after being stabbed multiple times in the neck while jogging along a waterfront path in Brooklyn, New York. Police have identified her as Katie Suarez and are appealing for witnesses as they search for the attacker.
Suarez was attacked at about 8pm on Friday, 30 October 2026, while running along the Shore Parkway Greenway in the Bath Beach area, near Bay 17th Street and the Belt Parkway. She was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in critical condition.
Police believe the assault happened between approximately 7.56pm and 8.12pm on the stretch of path between Bay 8th Street and Bay 17th Street. No suspect has been identified and no arrests have been announced. ([abc7ny.com](https://abc7ny.com/post/brooklyn-runner-critical-police-search-waterfront-path-attacker/20007443/))
Suarez had reportedly been preparing to take part in the TCS New York City Marathon. Earlier that evening, she had finished work at a TD Bank branch at Caesar’s Bay Shopping Centre, changed into her running clothes and set out alone.
She later spoke to her father by phone and said she was roughly half a mile, or about five minutes, away from meeting her family. When she failed to arrive and stopped answering calls, her father went to look for her and found her injured on the path.
Investigators have described the stabbing as apparently random, although a motive has not been established. Police sources said Suarez’s mobile phone and jewellery remained with her, leading detectives to believe robbery was not the motive. Officers have also been unable to obtain surveillance footage from the remote area. ([abc7ny.com](https://abc7ny.com/post/brooklyn-runner-critical-police-search-waterfront-path-attacker/20007443/))
Detectives have used police dogs, drones and scuba teams as part of the search for evidence and the person responsible. The New York Police Department has released a photograph of Suarez in her running gear in the hope that members of the public can help trace her movements.
A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information. Anyone who saw Suarez, noticed anything unusual or has video from the Shore Parkway Greenway around the time of the attack is urged to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline on 1-800-577-TIPS.
