Former police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon allegedly told a friend “I’ve done something … I’ve killed people” before mimicking gunfire with his hand, a jury has heard in his murder trial in the NSW Supreme Court.
Lamarre-Condon, 31, has pleaded not guilty to killing his former partner Jesse Baird and Mr Baird’s new boyfriend Luke Davies in February 2024. The men’s bodies were later found at a rural property inside surfboard bags.
The friend, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, told the court on Friday that Lamarre-Condon asked him to leave his workplace and meet him in an unfamiliar car on the day the men died.
When asked what had happened, Lamarre-Condon allegedly made a shooting gesture and said: “Pew pew.”
The friend recalled him allegedly saying: “I shot the first one through the head and the second one through the door.” He told the court Lamarre-Condon had said he heard someone trying to call police and “couldn’t leave any witnesses”, although the second person was not meant to be shot.
The Crown alleges Mr Davies was shot through the bedroom door at Mr Baird’s Sydney terrace. Lamarre-Condon’s barrister has suggested Mr Davies was killed during a violent struggle for the former officer’s police pistol.
The witness also gave evidence about a visit to a Decathlon sports store two days before the killings. Lamarre-Condon allegedly said he needed to collect surfboards from Mr Baird’s home, despite the witness saying he had never known him to surf.
CCTV shown to the 15-member jury earlier in the trial showed Lamarre-Condon holding a surfboard bag next to his friend before choosing a larger one. The witness said Lamarre-Condon asked him to stand beside it so he could measure the size, then said: “I might just get the bigger one.”
Lamarre-Condon bought one bag during that visit, but footage showed him purchasing a second from the same store hours after the alleged killings.
The trial continues.
