A man extradited from Poland has been charged with murder over the death of Darcy Schafer-Turner, whose body was found inside a metal cabinet floating in a creek on the NSW Mid-North Coast in 2023.
NSW Police homicide detectives travelled to Poland on September 18 to arrest the 26-year-old, who had allegedly fled overseas after the attack. He arrived in Sydney at about 6pm on Friday and was charged with murder.
He is due to appear in court on Saturday. Police have not released his name.
Schafer-Turner, 22, disappeared after an alleged drug-related dispute. His body was discovered inside the cabinet at Warrell Creek, near Macksville, weeks later as detectives investigated the alleged supply of drugs in the Caringbah area and his disappearance.
Two other men have already been sentenced in connection with his death.
Zachary Richard Fraser, who had been a close school friend of Schafer-Turner, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison in 2025 after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
The court heard Fraser taped Schafer-Turner’s mouth shut while another man held him in a chokehold. Schafer-Turner lost consciousness and suffocated.
Fraser believed Schafer-Turner owed the other man $50,000. One of the men attempted to resuscitate him, but neither contacted emergency services.
Charles Dennis Turnbull, a father from Queensland, was paid $20,000 to clean up the scene and dispose of the body, the court heard.
CCTV footage from Bunnings showed Turnbull buying cable ties and a large metal cabinet. He later travelled to Port Macquarie, bought a boat and used it to dump the cabinet in the creek.
