A gas station clerk has been shot and killed inside a store in Seattle’s Belltown neighbourhood, with police reviewing surveillance footage as they search for the attacker.
The shooting happened shortly before 6am on Tuesday at a 76 station in the 300 block of Broad Street, near Third Avenue and Denny Way. Officers found the clerk suffering from gunshot wounds, while Seattle Fire Department medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators said a heavy-set man dressed entirely in black entered the store, bought a drink and went behind the counter before shooting the employee. The suspect then left on foot and remains at large.
Police said nothing appeared to have been stolen, and detectives are working to establish whether the killing was random or targeted. A motive has not been confirmed.
The Seattle Police Department’s homicide unit and crime scene investigators attended the scene. Anyone with information, including potential footage from the area at the time of the shooting, is asked to contact the department’s violent crimes tip line on (206) 233-5000.
