Sian Welby and Ashley James were forced to make a slow exit from the stage after their dresses became caught together while celebrating This Morning’s win at the National Television Awards.
The pair had joined Cat Deeley, Ben Shephard, Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary at the O2 in London after the ITV programme was named the winner of the Daytime award on Tuesday night.
Unable to free themselves in front of the live audience, Welby and James held hands and carefully walked off together. James later shared a clip of the mishap on her Instagram Stories, writing: “@sianwelby went on stage and ended up stuck together. We had to slowly walk off together.”
James, 39, wore a black strapless Karen Millen gown with an embellished neckline, adding a large white cape to the outfit. Welby, 40, chose a black sparkly semi-sheer dress featuring cut-out detailing at the waist.
Welby regularly stands in as a presenter on This Morning, while James is a frequent guest on the programme, appearing in debates and discussions.
The light-hearted moment came during a successful night for the ITV show, which was among the nominees in the Daytime category alongside Good Morning Britain, James Martin’s Saturday Morning, Loose Women and Scam Interceptors.
Elsewhere at the ceremony, David Attenborough was named Best Presenter in his 100th year, beating Ant and Dec to the award. The veteran broadcaster’s producer Mark Brownlow accepted the prize on his behalf and used his speech to highlight the dangers of climate change.
Alan Carr also became emotional after receiving the Special Recognition award for his two decades in television. His surprise was revealed through a performance by Amanda Holden and Paloma Faith, who delivered a dramatic rendition of I Know Him So Well from Chess, with Faith arriving on stage in a coffin in a nod to their time on The Celebrity Traitors.
