Nicki Minaj has been informally suggested as the next White House press secretary after Katie Zacharia was fired, with two staff members publicly floating the rapper’s name for the role.
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung shared a video of Minaj praising Donald Trump’s international politics while aboard Air Force One, writing: “Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!”
The White House’s X account responded with an eyes emoji, while Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz added: “Hey Barbz, what do we think about this idea??”
Minaj appeared to acknowledge the suggestion herself by sharing an American flag and grinning face with sweat emojis, which can indicate nervous laughter.
It remains unclear whether the White House is seriously considering the rapper for the position. Minaj’s own posts appeared largely focused on her experience flying on Air Force One, including a video showing her reaction to the aircraft’s interior.
She is due to appear alongside Mr Trump in Port Huron, Michigan, this evening, where the suggestion of her taking on the press secretary role may receive further attention.
