A Kansas mother has died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash, leaving behind her 13 siblings and three-year-old daughter. Brittany Gondoly, 25, died on Wednesday, August 26, five days after the collision near Andale in Sedgwick County.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened at about 2.06pm on August 21 at the junction of 53rd Street North and 279th Street West.
Gondoly was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer south on 279th Street West when it collided with a Chevrolet Silverado travelling west on 53rd Street North. A preliminary investigation indicated that the Trailblazer had failed to give way, although the circumstances remain under investigation.
Firefighters freed Gondoly from the vehicle before she was taken to a Wichita hospital in a critical condition. The 20-year-old man driving the Silverado was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Gondoly’s family said she was devoted to her young daughter, Harper. Her sister Amanda Cunningham described her as “the joy that walked into the room” and said she was always happy.
After her death, Gondoly became an organ donor. Her family held a hospital “walk of honour” as her organs were recovered for transplant, with relatives saying the decision had given them some hope during their grief.
A fundraising appeal has been launched to help cover funeral and memorial costs, with part of the money intended to support Harper. The family said Gondoly did not have life insurance and is seeking to raise $12,000.
