Three men have been charged over an alleged knife brawl outside a fast-food outlet in Canterbury, Sydney, and were due to appear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday, 9 September.
Police allege the altercation took place shortly after midnight on Monday, 7 September, at the corner of Canterbury Road and Fore Street in the city’s south-west. All three men suffered stab wounds.
Officers were alerted after the men arrived at Canterbury Hospital separately with knife injuries. Two men, both aged 23, and an 18-year-old were later taken to hospitals across metropolitan Sydney, with the teenager remaining under police guard.
One of the 23-year-olds faces charges of reckless wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray. The other has been charged with being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, reckless wounding and affray.
The 18-year-old faces six charges, including reckless wounding, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray, driving while suspended and failing to display learner ‘L’ plates.
New South Wales Police said officers from Burwood Police Area Command established crime scenes and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
One knife was seized, while investigators are continuing efforts to locate a second weapon believed to have been involved, according to police.
Superintendent Christine McDonald, commander of Burwood Police Area Command, described the alleged violence as “completely unacceptable”.
“NSW Police will not stand for this type of violence in our community and on our streets,” she said.
The three men were refused bail. Police said they were in stable conditions after receiving medical treatment.
