Trevor Nelson returned to his BBC Radio 2 afternoon programme on Monday after undergoing surgery for a brain tumour, describing the past few months as an emotional and difficult summer.
The 62-year-old broadcaster was back behind the microphone for his regular 2pm to 4pm slot after stepping away from his work commitments in June to deal with health issues.
Nelson later revealed that doctors had discovered a brain tumour and that he had undergone what he described as very serious surgery. He said the operation had gone incredibly well and that he had spent the following weeks recovering at home and receiving post-operative treatment.
His return is being managed on a phased basis. He will present two Radio 2 programmes this week, followed by three the next week and four the week after, before resuming his full schedule from Monday, September 28.
He is also due to return to BBC Radio 1Xtra on Sunday, September 13, when he will host his regular 11am programme.
Nelson’s Radio 2 slot was covered during his absence by presenters including DJ Spoony and Clara Amfo. He had previously told listeners that he was concentrating on getting better and returning to the microphone when he was ready.
The broadcaster has not disclosed further details about the tumour, but has struck a positive note in updates about his recovery, saying he feels energised and almost back to himself.
