Two people have died after a high-speed boat struck a rocky peninsula on Lake Havasu in Arizona, became airborne and crashed into a remote campsite.
Charles Romer, 65, and Jennifer Luzzi, 59, both from Lake Havasu City, were pronounced dead at the scene following the crash on Saturday evening, 12 September.
Deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Boating Safety Division were called shortly after 7pm to an area north of Cattail Cove State Park. They found a 36ft 2019 Douglas Marine boat overturned on dry land.
The vessel had been travelling at high speed when it hit a large peninsula extending into the lake, according to preliminary findings. The impact sent it through the air and across the terrain before it landed upside down in a designated boat-in campsite.
Deputies found both victims unresponsive near the wreckage and began CPR. Fire crews from San Bernardino County and Lake Havasu City also attended, but the pair could not be saved.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said the circumstances surrounding the fatal boat crash remain under investigation.
