Alex Scott strengthened his case for a major transfer with an outstanding midfield display as Bournemouth drew 2-2 with Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday.
The 23-year-old was named man of the match after producing an influential all-round performance, underlining why Chelsea remain interested in signing him despite Bournemouth’s determination to keep hold of the England Under-21 international.
Scott completed 58 touches, made 19 passes into the final third and won eight duels. He also regained possession six times, created two chances, completed both of his attempted take-ons and won five fouls.
His contribution was particularly notable for the balance between defensive work and attacking ambition. Scott made three interceptions, twice tested Newcastle’s defence with his running and regularly helped Bournemouth progress the ball through midfield.
Chelsea had a bid worth £64 million rejected by Bournemouth in July, with the south coast club making clear that they did not want to sell. Scott has also turned down an offer to extend his current contract, which runs until 2028.
The Blues are understood to have made a late attempt to recruit Scott as they reshaped their midfield following Enzo Fernandez’s move to Manchester City. Despite that interest, Bournemouth held firm and retained one of their key players for the new campaign.

Scott’s latest display is likely to fuel further speculation over his future. Reports have suggested that Bournemouth could eventually demand a fee in the region of £100 million if he is sold in 2027.
Chelsea are not the only leading Premier League club to have shown an interest. Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham have all been linked with the midfielder, whose form has made him one of the most sought-after players in his position.
Manchester United strengthened their midfield during the summer by signing Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, while Liverpool could also benefit from Scott’s athleticism and ability to contribute in both penalty areas.
For now, Bournemouth will be focused on keeping the Guernsey-born midfielder at the club. Performances such as the one against Newcastle, however, will only increase the pressure on the Cherries to fend off interest from the Premier League’s wealthiest sides.
