Wilfried Gnonto’s future at Leeds United remains uncertain after Fiorentina reportedly secured an £18 million clause to make his loan move permanent.
The 22-year-old attacker joined the Serie A side on loan following a summer of speculation, leaving open the possibility of a permanent transfer, a move elsewhere or a return to Elland Road.

Pete O’Rourke claims Fiorentina will have the option to sign Gnonto for £18 million, although the Italian club still have much of the season to decide whether he has done enough to justify that fee.
The move has not begun smoothly. Fiorentina endured a poor start to the campaign and have already dismissed the manager who had pushed for Gnonto’s arrival.
The club are again facing the prospect of a relegation battle, placing added responsibility on their forwards. A productive spell for Gnonto could give him the opportunity to demonstrate his value in a side relying on him for goals.
There is also speculation that Gnonto could consider returning to Leeds and attempting to force his way into Daniel Farke’s plans. However, he has spent significant time at the club without appearing to become a regular first-team choice under the manager.
For now, a permanent move may offer the clearest solution for all parties, but Gnonto will need to find his scoring form if Fiorentina are to view the £18 million clause as worthwhile.
