Apple has unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, introducing a passport-shaped design that opens into the largest display ever fitted to an iPhone. The device was announced in Cupertino on Wednesday as part of the company’s latest iPhone launch. ([apple.com](https://www.apple.com/uk/newsroom/2026/09/apple-unveils-iphone-duo/))
When closed, the iPhone Duo has a 5.4in outer screen and is similar in size to a passport. Opened, it reveals a 7.6in inner display designed for watching content, gaming and using two apps at once. ([apple.com](https://www.apple.com/uk/newsroom/2026/09/apple-unveils-iphone-duo/))
Apple said the handset is its thinnest iPhone when open and features a precision hinge, a titanium body and a nano-texture finish intended to reduce glare and make the crease less visible.
The phone is powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip and runs iOS 27, which has been adapted for the folding format. The software supports split-screen multitasking, while Apple’s Intelligence features and an updated Siri are designed to work across the larger display. John Ternus, Apple’s chief executive, described the device as “the most transformational change to iPhone since the original”, saying it combined a larger screen with a design that could still fit in a pocket. ([apple.com](https://www.apple.com/uk/newsroom/2026/09/apple-unveils-iphone-duo/))
The iPhone Duo will be available in star white and night sky, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB. It will start at £1,999 in the UK, with pre-orders opening on Friday, October 16, and sales beginning on Friday, October 23.
