An East San Jose man was recovering after allegedly being struck in the head with a machete by his neighbour, prompting an hours-long police standoff at a home on Naples Drive.
Police said officers were called to the 1800 block of Naples Drive shortly after 9am on Sunday, October 25, following reports of a disturbance involving a weapon.
The victim, identified by local media as Alberto Cuevas, was treated in hospital and later released. He told reporters he needed about a dozen staples after the attack.
According to the San Jose Police Department, the suspect allegedly assaulted Mr Cuevas before returning to his own home and refusing orders to come outside. Officers, including a SWAT team and a police dog, were sent to the scene as negotiators tried to persuade him to surrender.
More than seven hours after the incident began, police moved towards the property and arrested a man who emerged in handcuffs, according to reports.
Mr Cuevas said the attack happened as he went outside to take out the rubbish. He also claimed he had previously reported years of alleged threats and property crimes involving the same neighbour.
Police have not publicly identified the suspect or detailed the specific offences for which he was arrested. The investigation remains ongoing.
