A ticketless passenger boarded a Jetstar flight from Melbourne to Brisbane, causing a delay of about half an hour before being escorted from the aircraft. The man allegedly passed Jetstar staff and flight crew before boarding flight JQ562 on Wednesday morning without a boarding pass. He was spotted at the back of the plane shortly before take-off. Authorities were called to remove him from the aircraft. The flight had been scheduled to depart at 9.35am but left at 10.09am, arriving in Brisbane 28 minutes behind schedule. The Australian Federal Police said officers attended Melbourne Airport at about 10am after receiving…
Indonesia has taken delivery of its first aircraft carrier, with the former Italian naval vessel Giuseppe Garibaldi arriving at a base in North Jakarta amid a wider push to strengthen the country’s military. The 41-year-old ship docked at Tanjung Priok seaport on Friday after travelling from Italy through Colombo and the Malacca Strait, according to Indonesian Navy chief of staff Muhammad Ali. It will be renamed KRI Sriwijaya, after the maritime kingdom based in Sumatra that was a major naval and trading power in south-east Asia between the seventh and 13th centuries. President Prabowo Subianto has said the vessel will…
Safeguard Global has moved away from a single four-day workweek model after concluding that a fixed schedule did not provide genuine flexibility for all employees, according to chief executive Bjorn Reynolds. The company’s experiment began with a straightforward aim: to give staff more time while maintaining or improving outcomes for customers and the business. Some employees embraced the arrangement, and several continue to work that way, but others found that having everyone follow the same four days was restrictive. Reynolds said the experience showed that changing the number of working days was not the same as allowing people to choose…
TikTok creator Mason Hull has pleaded not guilty to 15 charges of possessing child sexual abuse material, after detectives alleged that videos were found on his phone. The 18-year-old, known for posting “Looksmaxxing” content, was arrested on 5 May. The allegations centre on material investigators say he obtained online. According to an arrest warrant, Hull’s girlfriend told police she searched his phone because she believed he was being unfaithful. She allegedly found messages on Telegram indicating that he had paid people for videos. Police documents say Hull told officers during questioning that he had wanted to “try something new” and…
Jokers Grin’s bid to prove he belongs in The Everest has endured another late setback, leaving owner and breeder Mark Jones hoping the six-year-old can finally make his debut for Chris Waller in Saturday’s $1 million The Shorts at Randwick. The Western Australian sprinter developed a temperature on Tuesday, which was later linked to a foot abscess. Positive blood results and encouraging trackwork have since cleared the way for his return, although Jones remained cautious after travelling to Sydney on Thursday. “I’ll just keep the fingers crossed. We’ve had a bit of a rocky road,” Jones said. Jokers Grin, a…
A new species of wild cat has been identified in Bolivia, the first such discovery recorded in more than a century. An accompanying image appears to show the wild cat involved in the identification, providing visual confirmation of the development.
A Jetstar flight from Melbourne to Brisbane was delayed after a man allegedly boarded without a ticket, prompting crew to call police. Flight JQ562 was scheduled to leave Melbourne Airport at 9.35am on Wednesday, but its departure was reportedly pushed back by about 30 minutes following the alleged security incident. A witness told 3AW’s Rumour File that the man was initially stopped before boarding but allegedly found another way on to the Airbus A320. Cabin crew reportedly discovered him at the rear of the aircraft and contacted police, who escorted him from the plane. Jetstar confirmed that it had responded…
Two lawsuits have been filed in the United States seeking to prevent federal officers from entering polling places, amid growing fears that immigration enforcement could intimidate voters and deter them from casting ballots. Paul López, Denver’s clerk and recorder, is among the election officials and civil rights advocates challenging the possibility of federal agents appearing at voting locations. He said voters had repeatedly asked what they should do if officers arrived at the polls. “Every single meeting I have, there’s somebody that asks the question, ‘What can we do if federal agents are at the polls?’” Mr López said. Federal…
Jokers Grin will make his long-awaited eastern states debut in The Shorts at Randwick on Saturday, with owner Mark Jones hoping the West Australian sprinter can prove he belongs among the contenders for The Everest. The $1 million, 1100-metre race is the six-year-old’s first start since joining Chris Waller’s Rosehill stable in January. Jones believes Jokers Grin, at his best, can match a field that includes Everest hopefuls Headwall and Joliestar, as well as confirmed runner Ninja. But his preparation has been repeatedly interrupted by problems with his feet. Waller reported that Jokers Grin had developed a temperature on Tuesday,…
A survivor of Beverley Allitt’s attacks has said lessons from the nurse’s crimes were ignored before Lucy Letby murdered babies at another NHS hospital. Paul Crampton was five months old when he suffered three unexplained collapses at Grantham and Kesteven Hospital in Lincolnshire in March 1991. His parents later learned that he had been poisoned with a huge dose of insulin while in the children’s ward. The findings of Lady Justice Thirlwall’s inquiry into Letby’s crimes brought back painful memories for Paul’s father, David Crampton, who believes the warning signs identified after the Allitt case were not acted upon. “Someone…
