Fighting has intensified in Yemen after Iran-backed Houthi rebels expanded their control of a key shipping route, raising fresh concerns over oil supplies as the Strait of Hormuz remains severely disrupted by the US-Iran war. The guards will work from 10am to 6pm every day, primarily around locations where asylum seekers are dropped off, while also assisting with other security issues when required. The council said the scheme was intended to deter anti-social behaviour, reassure residents and gather…

At North Carolina State University, first-year student Amanda Cullen said most of her classes prohibit AI unless its use is properly cited. She is due to graduate in 2030, but questioned whether outright bans were realistic when the technology is already becoming part of everyday careers. “If it’s such a mainstream thing in careers, we should know how to do it in school,” she said.…

She poses for the camera before saying: “No betting on wars or deaths and no politics. Just sports.” Sweeney described the campaign as a promotion of sport with “confidence, humour and a playful edge”. The advert has nevertheless prompted anger from Australian swimming champion Ariarne Titmus, water polo player Tilly…
