Everton’s proposed £40 million move for Monaco striker Folarin Balogun has collapsed after the United States international decided not to proceed with the transfer.
The deal had been renegotiated following an issue identified during Balogun’s medical, with Everton attempting to restructure the agreement before the transfer window closed.
Everton submitted a deal sheet before the 23:00 BST deadline in an effort to complete the signing, but Balogun ultimately opted against joining David Moyes’ side.
The 25-year-old had emerged as a late target after Beto completed a permanent move to Serie A club Fiorentina. Everton also explored loan moves for Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee and Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham, but neither player agreed to move to Merseyside.
Balogun’s failed transfer leaves Everton without the additional attacking option they had sought on deadline day after allowing Beto to depart.
The club did complete the season-long loan signing of Jack Grealish from Manchester City, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles also joined from French side Lyon.
Scotland right-back Nathan Patterson left Everton for Torino on a permanent deal. Patterson joined the club from Rangers in January 2022 and made 68 appearances in all competitions.
