Jules Kounde is expected to stay at Barcelona despite reported Premier League interest, with the France defender determined to fight for his place under manager Hansi Flick.
Kounde has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou after falling behind Eric Garcia in Flick’s current defensive rotation. Chelsea have been mentioned as a potential destination in January as they look to strengthen their defence.
Jules Kounde wants to regain Barcelona starting place
However, Spanish journalist Juan Jesus says neither Barcelona nor Flick is currently considering a departure for the 27-year-old, while Kounde remains committed to competing for a starting position.
“Several clubs are very interested in Jules Kounde, especially in the Premier League, where Xabi Alonso is a big admirer of the player,” Jesus wrote.
“However, neither Hansi Flick nor Kounde himself are considering a departure at this time. The Frenchman feels very comfortable at Barcelona, is aware that he’s not at his best level, and wants to regain his starting spot at all costs.”
Jesus added: “For Flick, although he’s currently behind Eric García in the rotation, the door isn’t closed, and he’ll give him his opportunities.”
The report suggests a January transfer is unlikely, with Kounde set to remain at Barcelona and attempt to force his way back into Flick’s preferred side. His longer-term position could become clearer in the summer if his first-team opportunities do not increase.
