Joey Barton will remain in custody until next year after a renewed bail application was refused at Liverpool Crown Court.
The former footballer, 44, denies causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Kevin Lynch, 51, during an alleged incident at Fairway in Huyton on 8 March.
Barton had been due to stand trial this week, but Judge David Potter adjourned the case on Wednesday. The trial has now been listed for 8 March 2027 and is expected to last two weeks.
Appearing by video link from HMP Liverpool, Barton was remanded in custody ahead of a further pre-trial hearing on 11 December.
The alleged attack is said to have followed an evening during which Barton and Mr Lynch had been drinking together at Huyton and Prescot Golf Club. Mr Lynch, a former non-league football manager and founder of special education school NexGen Academy, was reported to have suffered serious injuries to his eye.
Barton, who is from Widnes, Cheshire, won one England cap during a playing career that included Manchester City, Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers, Burnley, Rangers and Marseille. He later managed Fleetwood Town and Bristol Rovers.
