Marcus Tavernier gave Bournemouth an early lead against Newcastle United at St James’ Park, finishing at the back post in the ninth minute.
The Cherries’ winger reacted quickest after the ball took a deflection inside the Newcastle penalty area, keeping his composure to beat goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.
The goal was Tavernier’s first of the Premier League season and put Bournemouth in front during a lively opening to Saturday’s fixture.
Tavernier, who came through Newcastle’s academy before moving to Middlesbrough, has established himself as an important attacking player for Bournemouth since joining the club in 2022.
