A 31-year-old British woman who was fatally stabbed at a railway station in southern Germany has been named locally as Rebecca Bullock, a much-loved pub manager from Buckinghamshire.
Ms Bullock, known as Becca, was attacked at Rosenheim station in Bavaria shortly before 1am on Sunday, 30 August. She suffered serious knife wounds and later died in hospital, police said. German federal police arrested a 27-year-old German man at the scene. He is from the Fürstenfeldbruck district, near Munich, and remains under investigation on suspicion of homicide. The circumstances and motive remain unclear. Police have appealed for witnesses who may have seen an argument or physical altercation at the station during the night of Saturday, 29 August, and the early hours of Sunday.
Local reports said the suspect was known to move among people without permanent accommodation. German authorities have not publicly confirmed that description and have not said whether he and Ms Bullock knew each other.
Ms Bullock is believed to have been travelling to Austria to support a friend attending a funeral. She had arrived in Germany only hours before the attack.
Tributes left at Buckinghamshire pub
Floral tributes were placed outside the White Swan in Whitchurch, near Aylesbury, where Ms Bullock worked as manager. The pub has remained closed since news of her death emerged.
In a statement on Facebook, the landlords said: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we are having to write this. We are so deeply sorry to say that our beloved Becca passed away over the weekend whilst away on holiday.”
They added: “All our thoughts and condolences are with her family at this time. Becca was much loved by all of the team at the White Swan and our amazing locals.”
Friends and customers described Ms Bullock as caring and non-judgemental, and praised her work organising charity events at the pub. She had recently helped with a fundraiser for a seriously ill girl in the local community.
Ms Bullock was a keen horsewoman and dog lover, and took part in trail hunting. She was also a member of Thame Runners and completed the 2022 London Marathon in aid of the Spinal Injuries Association.
The Bavarian authorities said there was no indication that the killing was connected to Rosenheim’s annual Herbstfest, which began shortly before the attack. They said there was no wider threat to the town. A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who died in Germany and are in touch with the local authorities.”
