Claremont captain Callan England has urged his side to use last year’s painful preliminary-final defeat as motivation when the Tigers host East Perth for a place in the WAFL grand final.
Claremont were beaten 7.4 (46) to 5.11 (41) by the Royals in 2025, ending their season in a tight contest at Leederville Oval. England and his teammates now have the opportunity to settle the score on home territory.
The Tigers’ defeat was shaped by missed chances, despite their advantage in attacking entries and scoring shots. Claremont were unable to convert late opportunities, while East Perth held firm to secure a five-point victory.
England, who has been a key figure in Claremont’s midfield, said the memory of that result had not been forgotten as the club prepared for another high-stakes meeting with the Royals.
The winner will advance to face Peel Thunder in the decider, giving the preliminary final added significance for both clubs. For Claremont, victory would not only keep their premiership hopes alive but also provide an immediate response to last season’s heartbreak.
