Daniel Lubetzky has spoken about the four qualities he believes are essential to building a successful business as he appeared on CBS Mornings to discuss his new podcast, Build or Break.
The KIND Snacks founder and Shark Tank judge said the series would explore the setbacks, failures and turning points behind the success of entrepreneurs and other prominent figures.
Lubetzky identifies the four skills as curiosity, compassion, creativity and courage. He has described them as the foundations of a “builder’s mindset” – an approach aimed at solving problems rather than deepening divisions.
Daniel Lubetzky’s new podcast Build or Break
The video podcast launches on Thursday, September 3, on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and other major podcast platforms. Three episodes are due to be released at launch, with new instalments scheduled weekly from September 15.
Among those featured in the series are fellow Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban, entrepreneur Kendra Scott, former NBA player Chris Paul, Diary of a CEO host Steven Bartlett and actor Jason Alexander.
Lubetzky said the conversations would look beyond polished success stories to examine the moments when guests came close to abandoning their ambitions, and how those experiences influenced what they built afterwards.
The idea draws on his own career. Lubetzky founded KIND Snacks in 2004 after earlier business setbacks, eventually turning the company into a major healthy-snacking brand. Mars acquired KIND’s North American business in 2020 in a deal widely reported to have valued the company at about 5 billion US dollars.
The podcast launch is being accompanied by an Art of Failure pop-up exhibition in New York, featuring stories and objects linked to the setbacks experienced by entrepreneurs and other guests. The free event is scheduled to run from September 3 to 5.
Speaking to CBS, Lubetzky presented failure not as the end of a business idea but as part of the process of refining it, learning from mistakes and finding the resolve to continue.
