A father was allegedly beaten by a student outside Wollert Secondary College in Melbourne’s north after confronting pupils he believed had been bullying his daughter.
Footage of the incident, which took place on Monday, August 24, appears to show the man being thrown to the ground and punched repeatedly in the face as school staff and bystanders moved in to stop the fight.
The father had gone to the school after collecting his daughter and was reportedly seeking to confront students over his concerns. However, the pupils involved in the altercation were not the students accused of bullying her, the Herald Sun reported.
One of the students involved has been described in media reports as having mixed martial arts training, although that claim has not been independently confirmed.
Video from the school grounds shows a staff member attempting to intervene while other pupils gather around the confrontation. A woman nearby was also pushed into a fence during the disturbance.
The fight then appears to move towards the roadside before breaking out again near a bus stop, with a second video showing a further confrontation.
Victoria Police said officers attended Wollert Secondary College after the incident, but no formal report had been made.
A Department of Education spokesman said the school was “committed to a safe and supportive culture for all staff and students”.
“Any form of violence or bullying at any school is unacceptable and the school takes immediate and appropriate disciplinary action where required,” the spokesman said.
