Cameron Munster’s future at Melbourne Storm has been thrown into fresh doubt after the Queensland five-eighth reportedly rejected a new contract offer, prompting debate among the Sunday Footy Show panel.
Munster is contracted to the Storm until the end of the 2027 NRL season, but his decision not to accept an extension means he is expected to test his value on the open market.
Reports in Australia said Melbourne had offered the 31-year-old a two-year deal worth about A$1.5 million, but the proposal was not considered sufficient to secure his immediate commitment.
Former New South Wales coach Brad Fittler was among the panellists to discuss whether Munster should remain in Melbourne or pursue a fresh challenge elsewhere.
The development has increased speculation linking Munster with the Brisbane Broncos, although no rival club has formally confirmed an approach. The Papua New Guinea Chiefs, who are due to enter the NRL in 2028, have also previously been associated with the veteran playmaker.
Munster has spent his entire NRL career with the Storm after making his debut for the club in 2014. He has established himself as one of the competition’s leading five-eighths and captained Queensland in State of Origin.
Melbourne have not given up hope of retaining him, but his reported rejection of the latest offer leaves the Storm facing the prospect of losing one of the central figures in their squad beyond the current deal.
