Alexander Isak scored twice inside the opening nine minutes as Liverpool made a blistering start against Ipswich Town, with both goals created by Cody Gakpo.
The Sweden striker opened the scoring after Gakpo moved infield from the left, used a clever feint to evade his marker and threaded a pass into Isak’s path. Isak took one touch before driving a powerful finish beyond the Ipswich goalkeeper.
Gakpo then produced an exquisite outside-of-the-foot pass for Liverpool’s second goal moments later. Isak still had work to do, but kept his composure in the area before calmly placing the ball into the net.
Gakpo and Isak underline Liverpool attacking options
The early partnership offered further evidence of the understanding developing between the Dutch winger and Liverpool’s new centre-forward.
Gakpo retained his place in Andoni Iraola’s starting XI for the Premier League visit to Portman Road, while Isak led the attack. Liverpool’s official team news confirmed Ronald Araujo was making his first start for the club, with Bradley Barcola included among the substitutes following his move from Paris Saint-Germain.
Isak had already scored in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on 29 August, while Gakpo also featured prominently in that match. Their combination at Ipswich gave Liverpool a commanding early advantage and highlighted the attacking depth available to Iraola.
