A Greek Air Force F-4 Phantom jet crashed during a solo display at the Athens Flying Week air show in Tanagra, north of Athens, on Saturday.
The twin-seat aircraft came down in front of thousands of spectators, sending a column of black smoke into the sky. No parachutes were seen after the crash and officials had not confirmed the condition of the two crew members.
There were no immediate reports of injuries among people attending the event, which was being held at Tanagra air force base.
A water-dropping helicopter was deployed over the crash site as emergency crews worked to contain a fire on the ground.
The incident occurred during the opening day of Athens Flying Week, a two-day international aviation event featuring military aircraft and aerobatic displays from Greece and several other countries.
