Four climate protesters were ejected from the Reform UK conference in Birmingham after disrupting proceedings, while Nigel Farage’s keynote speech was delayed by a security scare.
The demonstrators were removed from the hall at the National Exhibition Centre as the party leader prepared to address delegates on Friday afternoon.
One protester appeared on stage holding a banner reading “Collect £5m, burn the planet”, linking Mr Farage’s opposition to Net Zero with questions over a £5 million gift he received before the 2024 general election.
The banner was taken down, but the main event was then paused. Reform presenter Dr David Bull told the audience there had been “unforeseen circumstances” and that proceedings would resume shortly.
A Reform source later told Sky News that counter-terrorism police had not yet cleared Mr Farage to go on stage, with security teams waiting for approval before allowing the speech to begin.
The disruption came as the party’s annual conference opened under pressure over allegations concerning political donations. Reform has denied wrongdoing and said it was the victim of a hoax involving climate activists posing as prospective donors.
The conference is being held at the NEC from Thursday September 3 to Saturday September 5, with Mr Farage due to deliver two addresses during the event.
