Justin and Hailey Bieber have prompted fresh speculation about their marriage after appearing to share an animated exchange at Finneas O’Connell and Claudia Sulewski’s wedding in Montecito.
Footage from the ceremony at San Ysidro Ranch on Saturday, 29 August, appeared to show Hailey gesturing while speaking to her husband before the pair moved away from one another.
The images, captured just weeks before the Biebers’ eighth wedding anniversary, quickly fuelled online claims that the couple had argued. However, there is no evidence from the footage alone that the exchange was a row.
The celebrity tip account DeuxMoi said Justin and Hailey “were not fighting” in the photographs, citing sources who rejected speculation that the couple had fallen out during the celebrations.
Justin later shared photographs of himself and Hailey at the wedding on Instagram, accompanying them with a series of heart emojis.
Justin and Hailey Bieber’s relationship under scrutiny
The apparent disagreement nevertheless revived wider interest in the couple’s relationship, following a year in which fans repeatedly expressed concern about Justin’s wellbeing and questioned whether their marriage was under strain.
Sources told the Daily Mail that the pair were committed to one another and that any disagreement at the wedding would have been short-lived.
“Hailey bickers with Justin all the time, so a wedding spat, if any, was probably just a minor flare-up,” one source said. “They are crazy in love and committed to each other, make no mistake, and eventually want another child.”
Another insider described the couple as having an intense relationship, saying they could clash but were unlikely to remain angry for long.
Justin and Hailey first met as teenagers backstage at the Today show after being introduced by Hailey’s father, Stephen Baldwin. They later reconnected through their church community and married in a New York courthouse in September 2018, months after resuming their relationship.
The couple held a larger wedding ceremony in South Carolina the following year and welcomed their son, Jack Blues, in 2024.
Hailey has previously spoken about the strain caused by constant speculation surrounding the marriage. In an interview with Vogue Italia, she described daily claims that the couple were unhappy or heading for divorce as a “mindf***” and said attempts to correct public narratives could feel “trapping”.
Her career has also continued to develop independently of her husband’s fame. Hailey’s skincare company, Rhode, was sold to e.l.f. Beauty in a deal reportedly worth $1 billion, with her remaining involved as chief creative officer and head of innovation.
Friends told the Daily Mail that the couple seek professional help and rely on their faith and close circle of friends to support their relationship.
“She is in it for the long haul. Hailey does not believe in divorce,” one source said.
Finneas and Sulewski’s wedding was attended by a number of high-profile guests, with Finneas’s sister, Billie Eilish, reported to have officiated the ceremony.
