Jake Reiner has married Maria Gilfillan in a small ceremony, eight months after the deaths of his parents, Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner.
The couple wed at the beginning of August, according to sources cited by TMZ. Reiner, 34, was later seen wearing a gold wedding band during his first television interview since his parents were killed. ([tmz.com](https://www.tmz.com/2026/08/31/rob-and-michele-reiners-son-jake-is-married/))
The marriage comes after Reiner wrote in an April Substack essay that one of the most painful aspects of the tragedy was knowing his parents would not be present to see him marry, meet their future grandchildren or watch his career develop.
“My parents won’t be at my wedding, they won’t get to hold their future grandchild, and they won’t get to see me have the successful career I’m still seeking,” he wrote. “It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me.”
Reiner spoke to Los Angeles broadcaster KABC on August 27, describing the months since his parents’ deaths as a period in which “every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality”.
He said he had been in downtown Los Angeles on December 14, 2025, when his younger sister Romy called twice in quick succession. “Romy told me our dad was dead, and then she said, ‘I can’t find mom,’” he recalled.
Rob and Michele Reiner were found fatally stabbed at their Brentwood home. Their younger son, Nick Reiner, 32, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and is being held without bail.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said an indictment unsealed on August 12 alleges that Nick Reiner killed his parents with a knife and had been “lying in wait”. Prosecutors have also alleged multiple murders and the personal use of a deadly weapon; the charges remain allegations and he is presumed innocent unless convicted. During the interview, Jake Reiner paused for several seconds when asked about his brother. He said: “I mean, he’s in jail. So… you know, it’s… It’s like, I physically lost my parents, and then Nick was arrested, and it’s like, now it’s just me and Romy.”
He said his parents had “never stopped helping” Nick and added that he would “never understand” why they were killed.
Rob Reiner, whose work included This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me and A Few Good Men, met Michele Singer while working on When Harry Met Sally. The couple married in 1989 and had Jake, Nick and Romy.

Nick Reiner is due to appear at a pre-trial hearing at the Foltz Criminal Justice Centre in Los Angeles on September 15. If convicted, he could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty, with prosecutors yet to decide whether to seek capital punishment.
