The widow of cyclist Joseph Paratore has spoken of her family’s heartbreak after he was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Bibra Lake, south of Perth.
Mr Paratore, 40, was riding along North Lake Road at about 5.20am on Tuesday, October 20, when he was struck. He died at the scene.
Western Australia Police allege he was hit by a white four-wheel-drive vehicle which failed to stop.
In a statement issued through police, his wife, Sarina Paratore, said: “Our hearts are broken and grieving for the loss of Joseph Paratore. He was a son, a brother, a best friend and cycling buddy.”
“Always there when you needed him. Loud, full of life and with the biggest heart,” she added. “There are no words for this pain.”
Mrs Paratore thanked the family’s friends and community for their support, saying: “Please continue to pray for us.”
Police arrested 40-year-old Craig Daniel Strawbridge, from Yangebup, following the fatal collision.
He was charged with failing to stop and ensure assistance after a deadly crash and failing to report a crash resulting in death. Mr Strawbridge appeared at Fremantle Magistrates Court on Thursday, where he was refused bail and remanded in custody.
He is due to appear before the same court next month.
