Ray Nicholson underwent knee surgery after injuring himself while filming Netflix film The Mosquito Bowl, revealing that he returned to the set the day after the operation.
The 34-year-old actor was running with co-star Tom Francis during a scene filmed at a rock quarry when he fell and hurt his knee. Although he was wearing knee pads, Nicholson initially felt only “something a little weird” before the injury became more apparent.
Speaking during the film’s AFI screening on Thursday, October 22, Nicholson said his knee began to go numb. He later discovered what he described as “a hole, like a crater”, adding: “It looked like a divot in my knee.”

The accident happened the day before the cast was due to film what Nicholson called “maybe the most important scene in the movie”.
“The next day, I had a full operation,” he said. “They had to clean out my knee.”
Despite undergoing surgery, Nicholson was back on set the following day, although he was walking with a limp.
He attended the Los Angeles premiere at TCL Chinese Theater alongside Francis, Bill Skarsgård and Nicholas Galitzine. The film follows four leading American college football players who enlist in the Marines after the attack on Pearl Harbor, later taking part in a legendary game as they prepare for the invasion of Okinawa.
The Mosquito Bowl is due to be released in cinemas on October 30 before arriving on Netflix on November 25.
