The Cox Plate has moved to Flemington, with Sir Delius heading the betting as trainer Gai Waterhouse balances preparations for the race with the demands of Melbourne’s spring carnival.
Waterhouse was speaking from a spa near the Paris end of Collins Street at about 9am on Monday, after an early start at Flemington to attend to her horses.
The veteran trainer said she was feeling tired after being awake for six hours before returning to the Melbourne home she shares with her husband, Rob, during the carnival.
“I am having a little bit of beauty treatment and while it’s happening I can feel myself disappearing into another realm,” Waterhouse said.
Known for her energetic presence as well as her success in the sport, Waterhouse said she could recharge with a brief nap before turning her attention to the demands ahead.
