Police are searching for a teenager after four sheep died in an alleged animal cruelty attack at a rural property in Canberra’s south.
ACT Police allege several people went to the property near the Monaro Highway on the night of September 16 and rounded up eight sheep before confining them in a holding pen.
Several of the animals were allegedly deliberately injured while trapped inside. One sheep died, while three others were euthanised because of the severity of their injuries. Two more suffered serious injuries.
The property owner discovered the animals the following day and contacted police. The residence had also been entered and ransacked, leaving extensive disruption inside.
Major Crime officers searched a property in Richardson on October 8 and seized items allegedly linked to the offences.
An 18-year-old man was arrested and charged on October 9. Police have also charged a 27-year-old man with multiple offences, including four counts of aggravated cruelty to animals causing death, two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals causing serious injury and aggravated burglary.
An arrest warrant has been issued for the teenager, who police say they are still trying to locate. Anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
