Lindsay Clancy’s defence lawyer Kevin Reddington confronted a talk-show host outside Plymouth County Superior Court after accusing him of making baseless claims about the case.
In footage recorded on Tuesday, August 25, Reddington told John De Petro: “I don’t want to talk to you again, because you are a biased weasel.”
De Petro replied: “That’s ridiculous, Kevin,” before Reddington urged him to read what he had said about the case and added: “Stay away from me.”
Speaking to reporters separately, Reddington said he had become angry because people were making allegations about Lindsay Clancy without evidence.
“The guy’s saying bad things about Lindsay, none of which have a basis. So, yeah, I get a little angry,” he said.
The confrontation came as Clancy’s trial entered its final stages at the Massachusetts court. Jurors are considering whether she should be held criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months, in January 2023.
Clancy does not dispute that she strangled the children, but her defence argues that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and was unable to understand the nature or wrongfulness of her actions.
Prosecutors allege that she knew what she was doing and made a conscious decision to kill the children before attempting to take her own life.
The jury began deliberating on Thursday, August 27, and was due to return on Monday, August 31, after spending the weekend without reaching a verdict. It may find Clancy guilty of murder or manslaughter, acquit her, or conclude that she was not criminally responsible because of mental illness.
