Lionel Richie has been hospitalised in St Louis after performing at The Muny on Saturday, 29 August, with TMZ reporting that the singer was admitted to an intensive care unit for tests.
The 77-year-old appeared to need support during the concert, at one point leaning on a piano. He later asked for a chair before performing his closing number, “All Night Long”, according to audience footage and witnesses.
TMZ reported that Richie checked himself into a local hospital after the show as a precaution. Sources told the entertainment site that doctors were investigating possible slight dehydration and that the singer hoped to be discharged on Tuesday.
There has been no public diagnosis, and TMZ said Richie’s representatives had not responded to requests for comment.
The performance was billed by The Muny as its 2026 summer concert finale. Richie is currently touring with Earth, Wind & Fire on the 26-date “Sing A Song All Night Long” tour.
The latest hospital visit follows another onstage health scare in June, when Richie stopped a concert in St Paul, Minnesota, after telling the audience he felt “dizzy” and “strange”. He was taken to hospital by ambulance and shows in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, were postponed.
Richie later referred to the need for electrolytes during a performance at Madison Square Garden in July.
The singer rose to fame with the Commodores before launching a solo career that produced hits including “Hello”, “My Love” and “Say You, Say Me”. He also co-wrote “We Are The World” with Michael Jackson and has been a judge on American Idol since 2018.
