Liverpool are reportedly interested in Brighton & Hove Albion defender Luka Vuskovic as they assess options for the future of their defence ahead of next summer’s transfer window.
The 19-year-old Croatia international has emerged as a target for a number of Europe’s leading clubs after impressing since moving to the Amex Stadium. Real Madrid and Barcelona are also understood to be in the race, with Bayern Munich and Chelsea monitoring his progress.
Liverpool interest in Luka Vuskovic grows
Vuskovic’s aerial ability, physical strength and composure in possession have helped him establish himself as an important player for Brighton. His performances have also enhanced his reputation as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe.
Liverpool’s interest comes as the club considers its long-term defensive plans. Virgil van Dijk is approaching the final months of his current contract, prompting the club to assess potential successors as it prepares for the next stage of its rebuild.
Vuskovic’s consistency in the Premier League and maturity at a young age are understood to have made him an attractive option for Liverpool’s recruitment team. However, the Merseyside club has yet to make a formal approach.
Brighton in strong position over defender
Any move would be difficult to negotiate. Brighton signed Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur during the summer in a deal worth up to £50 million and secured his services until 2031.
The Seagulls regard the defender as a central part of their long-term plans and are under no immediate pressure to sell. As a result, any potential transfer appears more likely to be considered next summer rather than in January.
With Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona among the clubs linked with Vuskovic, competition for his signature could intensify during the next transfer window.
