A summer Alisson Liverpool exit is now considered a serious possibility, with the Brazil international’s contract at Anfield running until June 2027 and no renewal talks currently taking place.
The 34-year-old goalkeeper has been a key figure for Liverpool since joining from Roma in 2018. However, the club may now need to make detailed plans for life after one of its most important players.
Romano says Alisson departure is a serious possibility
Fabrizio Romano said Liverpool were aware that Alisson had considered moving to Juventus earlier in 2026 before deciding to remain at the club for another season.
According to Romano, Liverpool activated a one-year extension at a time when the squad was already undergoing significant change, with Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and other senior players leaving.
Alisson opted to stay and assist during the transition from Arne Slot to Andoni Iraola. But when asked whether the current campaign could be his last at Liverpool, Romano said: “I think it’s a serious possibility.”
Iraola has also admitted that he does not know whether the goalkeeper will remain at Anfield, while making clear that he hopes Alisson agrees a new contract.
Liverpool are understood to be preparing for the possibility of his departure. Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki is being monitored as a potential long-term successor, while Giorgi Mamardashvili is already at the club and Diogo Costa has also been linked with a move from Porto.
Alisson’s exit is not yet certain, with Romano stressing that Liverpool could still offer him a fresh deal if the club changes its position.
For now, the goalkeeper’s future remains unresolved, but the prospect of him leaving Liverpool next summer has become increasingly realistic.
