Liverpool have completed the signing of Genk goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans in a deal that could eventually be worth £30 million, with the highly-rated Belgian teenager due to remain with his current club for the 2026-27 season.
Brughmans, 18, has agreed a six-year contract at Anfield and is expected to join Liverpool ahead of the 2027-28 campaign. The agreement includes an initial fee followed by performance-related payments, with the final figure reaching around £30 million if all conditions are met.
The 6ft 7in goalkeeper has started each of Genk’s opening four matches this season and has already represented Belgium at youth level. He came through Genk’s academy after joining from PSV Eindhoven in 2022 and made his senior debut for Jong Genk at 16.
Reports in Belgium said Brughmans underwent a medical before the transfer was concluded. Genk had recently extended his contract until June 2030, the longest deal available to a minor under Belgian regulations.
Liverpool’s current goalkeeping group includes Alisson, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman and Vitezslav Jaros. Alisson’s contract is due to expire next summer, while Mamardashvili’s position at the club remains uncertain, meaning Brughmans could become an important part of the club’s long-term planning.
The move was driven by Liverpool’s global talent department, led by Matt Newberry, as the club continue to invest in promising young players from overseas.
Liverpool have also recruited teenage centre-backs Mor Talla N’Diaye of Senegal and Austria’s Ifeanyi Ndukwe this year, following impressive performances at the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar. Goalkeeper Armin Pecsi and Colombian midfielder Samuel Martinez have joined during the past 12 months, with Pecsi spending the current campaign on loan at TSV Hartberg in Germany.
